This cover for The Comet Combustion was really about capturing that eerie blend of innocence and underlying darkness. I illustrated Kenzie sitting on a bench, but what’s really intriguing are the wings—crafted from a monstrous or demonic figure—that seem to creep in from the side, almost like they’re a part of her. I wanted to create a contrast between her calm demeanor and the ominous presence of the wings. I did the line art, pouring a lot of detail into it, while the incredible Laura Martin brought it to life with her award-winning colors, adding depth and mood to the piece.
